Solar Village Foothills Home
Built on a stunning site with 360 degrees of mountain views from the homes wraparound 2nd story deck. The key feature of the home is its passive solar green house that brings in lots of natural light and provides free heat in the winter. The large open kitchen is surrounded by the dining, living and passive solar rooms to make it the perfect entertainment hub. For the man of the house there is a large workshop and a natural light filled garage.
This home starts with a super insulated structure of closed cell spray foam in the walls, a 1" foil faced rigid foam exterior, and spray foam on the ceiling covered by blown in cellulose for a wall R-value of 34 and ceiling R-value of 54. The foam also makes the house nearly air tight to keep out cold winter breezes and hot summer air. The windows are Endurashield high performance fiberglass windows with a beautiful alder wood interior. To back up the free passive solar heat there is radiant floor heat in the floors thermal mass provided by a high efficiency condensing boiler. Extensive use of low maintenance materials and a nearly fire proof exterior make this home a perfect fit in its mountain surroundings.
